CoinWorld News reports that U.S. Secretary of State Rubio plans to visit Italy later next week, when U.S.-Italy ties are tense. Previously, Italian Prime Minister Meloni had a dispute with Trump over the Iran war and Meloni’s defense of Pope Leo XIV. Rubio’s team has already sent the Italian side details of the visit itinerary, planning to meet with Vatican officials and Italian Foreign Minister Tajani, and may also meet with Meloni. In an interview, Trump said he was “shocked” by Meloni’s position on the Iran war issue and claimed she lacked courage. Trump also said he is willing to consider reducing the U.S. military presence in Italy, a threat that has seemed more real after the Pentagon announced plans to withdraw about 5,000 U.S. troops from Germany.
