I recently had a pretty bad experience being scammed by a node, and I want to share my story in hopes of helping everyone avoid similar pitfalls.

Here's what happened. Last month, I checked my wallet to see if my salary had arrived, and the balance showed up as full, looking very realistic. I thought about trying to withdraw, but then I was immediately asked to "pay a 20% activation fee to unlock the funds." I sensed something was off, so I quickly contacted the wallet customer service. Their one sentence scared me — my wallet was connected to a fake custom node, and all the funds I saw were fake.

Only later did I realize how ruthless the scammers' tactics are. They first tricked me into adding a "custom node" in my wallet, which was not real at all — it was just used to display a fake balance. My actual wallet was empty. Even more outrageous, they wanted to continue extorting me by sending more USDT as a "startup fee." My real salary hadn't even arrived, and I almost fell for it.

This experience taught me a few lessons. First, never blindly trust custom nodes; only add ones from official sources. Scammers use fake nodes to create false balances and set traps to deceive people.

Most importantly, learn to double-check with blockchain explorers. Tools like Etherscan, BSCScan, and TronScan are useful. Enter your wallet address and see what the real balance is. If your wallet shows tokens but the explorer shows nothing, it's 100% a scam.

There are also some red flags to watch out for. Requests for "activation fees" or "unlock fees" are outright scams. Private messages on Telegram, Discord, or social media suddenly pushing "technical support" or "node upgrades" are also tricks. When things feel too rushed or too formal, take a moment to verify.

Honestly, I almost lost a lot due to this node scam, but I guess I paid for a lesson. I hope everyone can be more cautious and protect their wallets in the crypto world.
