India's EV industry is attracting attention, but what is the reality? Despite promoting domestic manufacturing through Make in India, it seems that control over the battery supply chain remains firmly in the hands of Chinese companies.

Even with ongoing significant investments, especially in the core components manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries, dependence on Chinese manufacturers has not decreased at all. India aims for self-sufficiency, yet a contradiction exists where it still relies on external sources for critical parts.

This is not just a matter of industrial policy but highlights structural issues across the entire supply chain. There is a reality that reducing dependence on imports from China won't change overnight. While India's ambition to become a global EV manufacturing hub is understandable, there are many challenges that need to be addressed first.

Looking at this situation, it becomes clear that achieving industrial independence requires not just investment but a long-term, strategic overhaul of the supply chain. It really makes you realize how deep the economic ties between India and China are.
