Works entirely reliant on artificial intelligence will not win Oscars in 2027

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced a new update to the rules for Oscar submissions, in preparation for the 2027 ceremony.

The changes focus on clarifying the role of artificial intelligence within the film industry, emphasizing that core artistic awards depend on human creativity.

▪️Works produced entirely using artificial intelligence will not be allowed to compete in or win Oscar awards.

▪️In acting categories, performers must be real human actors, with their full consent to the performance.

▪️In writing categories, scripts must be authored by humans to be eligible for competition.

The Academy also clarified that it monitors the use of artificial intelligence techniques in filmmaking, with the right to request additional information about how it is used and the extent of human contribution to the work.

Use of artificial intelligence remains permitted during production stages such as visual effects and editing, while participation in core categories remains linked to human creativity.
