You know that "PayPal Mafia" concept everyone talks about in Silicon Valley? Well, it's no exaggeration. Some people leave a project and literally change the world afterward.

I'm going to tell you how a group of former PayPal employees became one of the most influential networks of entrepreneurs in history. After PayPal was sold, these guys didn't sit back – each went their own way and created something we still use today.

Let's start with the most obvious: Elon Musk. The guy left PayPal and went on to create SpaceX (which literally sends people to space) and Tesla (which revolutionized electric cars). Meanwhile, Peter Thiel – one of the co-founders – became one of the most powerful investors in Silicon Valley, founded Palantir, and was the first outside investor in Facebook. He even wrote that book "Zero to One" that every entrepreneur cites.

Reid Hoffman left there and created LinkedIn, which is now basically the Facebook for professionals. Max Levchin, the technical genius, founded Affirm to revolutionize the credit system. David Sachs launched Yammer, which Microsoft bought for $1.2 billion. Roelof Botha, who was CFO, joined Sequoia Capital and helped invest in YouTube and Instagram when nobody believed.

And there's more: Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Javed Karim created YouTube together – you know that platform you use to watch everything? Yeah. It was later sold to Google for $1.65 billion. Jeremy Stoppleman founded Yelp, which became the go-to review site for restaurants. Keith Raboa and Alex Moad continued as investors and mentors for startups, supporting companies like DoorDash and OpenDoor.

The cool thing about the PayPal Mafia is that these guys didn't just create startups – they changed entire sectors. Space, cars, finance, videos, professional networks... all came from a group that worked together on a project. It’s like a cascading effect: one success leads to another, and suddenly you have a network of entrepreneurs transforming the world.

Many study this phenomenon to understand how innovation works in Silicon Valley. The truth is, the PayPal Mafia proves that when you bring together talented, ambitious people who have already experienced success together, they tend to keep creating amazing things moving forward. Each went their own way, but the collective legacy is incredible.
