Fed Debate Shifts From Rate Cuts to Assessing Conditions for Hikes

Nick Timiraos said Federal Reserve officials are no longer focused mainly on when to restart rate cuts and are starting to assess when rate hikes could be needed again. Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan and Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari were among three regional Fed presidents who opposed keeping language at this week’s policy meeting that said the next move was more likely a cut. Jerome Powell said the committee is moving gradually from a rate-cut bias to a neutral stance.
