Cui Dongshu: China will hold 56% of the global pure electric vehicle market share in 2026

The Secretary General of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, Cui Dongshu, stated that global vehicle sales from January to March 2026 reached 22.4 million units, with new energy vehicles reaching 4.53 million units.
The share of new energy vehicles in January to March 2026 reached 20.2%, with pure electric vehicles accounting for 13.8%, plug-in hybrid vehicles making up 6.4%, and hybrid vehicles performing well at 7.2%.
China’s share in the global pure electric vehicle market remains relatively stable, with a share level around 63% from 2023 to 2025; in early 2026, China’s share in the global pure electric vehicle market was 56%, and China’s performance in pure electric vehicles was temporarily weaker.
China leads the world in the share of plug-in hybrid vehicles.
In 2025, China reached a very high level of 76.4% in the global plug-in hybrid market share, and in 2026, China achieved a high level of 73%, demonstrating a super-strong performance in the global plug-in hybrid market. (Cailian Press)
