DTE to ask for $474M hike to electric rates

DTE Energy plans to request a $474.3 million electric rate increase from Michigan state regulators, the largest since at least 2019. The company states that if two hyperscale data center projects, including one for OpenAI’s “Stargate” program, come online, they will not need another rate hike until at least 2028. DTE claims these increases and data center investments are crucial for improving grid infrastructure and service reliability, amidst past criticism for frequent outages.
