I have always been intrigued by the same question that probably many people ask themselves: how many bitcoins does Satoshi Nakamoto really have? The answer is fascinating because this guy is literally the creator of Bitcoin, so it makes sense that he is the biggest holder.

What most people don't know is that how many bitcoins Satoshi Nakamoto has is not concentrated in a single wallet. We are talking about approximately 1.1 million BTC distributed across around 22,000 different addresses. It all comes from when Satoshi was the first miner on the network, mining over 22,000 blocks since January 2009 and accumulating more than a million in rewards. If you think about it, back then Bitcoin was worth almost nothing, so he was mining without thinking about speculation.

Now, how many bitcoins Satoshi Nakamoto has in terms of current value is mind-blowing. Those 1.1 million would be valued at approximately 127 billion dollars by mid-2025. But here’s the interesting part: Satoshi disappeared in 2010 and has never moved a single satoshi from those funds, except for some test transactions in the early days. It’s as if he kept the key to the biggest crypto fortune in the universe and simply vanished.

If we talk about other major whales, we have the Winklevoss twins who, after their settlement with Facebook, bought Bitcoin at $10 each, accumulating around 70,000 BTC. Tim Draper, the legendary VC, has about 29,656 BTC that he bought after losing 40,000 in the Mt Gox collapse. Michael Saylor of MicroStrategy revealed that he personally had 17,732 BTC years ago, and he has probably accumulated more since then, being the public Bitcoin advocate he is.

But when you compare all these numbers to how many bitcoins Satoshi Nakamoto has, the difference is astronomical. Institutions are also in the game: MicroStrategy holds around 628,791 BTC, BlackRock has about 738,170, and Grayscale owns 180,596. Still, nothing compares to Satoshi’s silent volume. He is the biggest whale who has never sold, never spoken, never spent. That’s what makes the story so unique.
