Recently, Baidu has been making big moves. At the alliance conference, it officially rolled out the “Nebula Plan.” The core of the plan is to open up its Orion AI engine to the industry. This initiative is quite interesting—it’s not only about technological openness; it also involves a revenue-sharing model, allowing developers and manufacturers to directly integrate industry-specific modules and participate in profit sharing.

Many top smartphone manufacturers have already followed suit. Big players like Xiaomi, Honor, and Vivo have joined this plan, which shows that the industry recognizes and approves of the Orion solution. From a technical perspective, Orion is essentially a general AI search end-to-end service solution designed for partners. At its foundation is Wenxin Assistant. Using a main proxy and multi-skill orchestration, it can integrate Baidu’s search and service capabilities across multiple areas such as e-commerce, travel, and health.

I think the standout feature of this model is its closed-loop design. It covers the entire journey for users—from information gathering to task delivery. With this approach, the application ecosystem built on Orion could grow rapidly. Especially for small and medium-sized developers who want to quickly access AI capabilities, this open-and-profit-sharing model is highly appealing.

Overall, through the Nebula Plan, Baidu is bringing Orion’s complete AI search solution to a wider market, which may accelerate the rollout of AI applications across the entire industry.
