Bridgewater Associates: AI Poses Existential Threat to Traditional Software Companies

On April 28, Bridgewater Associates, the world’s largest hedge fund, released a report comparing the current situation to the industry upheaval of the 1990s, stating that established software companies are now facing similar survival threats. The report noted, ‘With the official launch of the new Claude Code model, emerging competitors have created an existential crisis for leading firms, much like Amazon’s impact on Barnes & Noble.’ So far this year, the S&P 500 Software and Services Index has fallen by approximately 17%.
