On April 24th, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun hosted a routine press conference.
A Bloomberg reporter asked, according to reports, two giant pandas “Pingping” and “Fushuang” will travel from Chengdu to Atlanta, USA.
Can you confirm this news and provide a specific departure time?
Furthermore, as the heads of state of the two countries are about to hold a meeting, what does this event mean for China-U.S. relations?
Guo Jiakun stated that giant pandas are China’s national treasure and also messengers and bridges of friendship between the peoples of the world.
“We believe that a new round of China-U.S. giant panda conservation cooperation will contribute to promoting the health and well-being of giant pandas, enhancing the protection capabilities of endangered species like giant pandas, advancing global biodiversity conservation, and deepening friendship between the Chinese and American peoples.” (The Paper)
