May 1st, the capital of Cuba, Havana, held an International Labor Day rally, where Cuban revolutionary leader Raúl Castro, President Díaz-Canel, and over half a million people gathered at the Anti-Imperialist Square to jointly voice a strong call to “defend the homeland.” On the same day, the United States announced an escalation of sanctions against Cuba. The Cuban people used this rally to express their firm defense of national sovereignty and to condemn U.S. blockade and pressure actions. They stated that the claws of imperialism are reaching out to Cuba, preventing Cubans from breathing and trying to suffocate them. Cuba needs help from the whole world to break the blockade, and no one can tell Cuba how to live. (CCTV International News)
