Just scrolled through the latest global gold reserves breakdown and it's pretty interesting how concentrated things are at the top. The US absolutely dominates with over 8,000 tons, which is more than double what Germany holds. That's wild when you think about it.
Looking at the top 10 countries with most gold reserves, you've got the traditional Western powers (Germany, France, Italy) sitting right there alongside Russia and China. India and Japan rounding out the list with solid positions too. Switzerland's number is smaller but that's because they've got a different economic structure.
What catches my eye is how gold still matters for reserve diversification, especially for major economies. Even with all the crypto talk, these countries aren't moving away from physical gold holdings. Kinda shows you the staying power of precious metals in geopolitics and finance.
