Leader of Reform Party Accused of 'Conflict of Interest' Over £5 Million Donation from Crypto Investor

On May 2, the Financial Times reported that Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform Party, has been accused of a ‘conflict of interest’ by opposition parties. Farage received a personal donation of £5 million from cryptocurrency investor Christopher Harborne, who resides in Thailand, in 2024. Subsequently, the Reform Party proposed a regulatory draft for the crypto industry in May 2025, promising to reduce the crypto transaction stamp duty from 24% to 10%, and suggested establishing a national Bitcoin reserve and cutting capital gains tax on crypto assets. Farage admitted to receiving the donation on Wednesday, while the Reform Party insists that policy-making is unrelated to the donors. Harborne also donated £12 million to the Reform Party last year; crypto businessman Ben Delo donated £4 million to the party this year. Farage is currently facing allegations of violating House of Commons rules, with the most severe consequences potentially leading to suspension from Parliament and triggering a by-election.
