Just found out Pakistan is growing the world's rarest and most expensive mangos in Karachi, and honestly the prices are insane. We're talking Rs 300,000 per kilogram for these purple mango varieties called Miyazaki. Like, these things are selling for $800-900 per kilogram on the international market, making them literally one of the priciest fruits you can buy anywhere.
So apparently this guy Ghulam Hashim Noorani brought a sapling from Japan six years ago and started cultivating it in Malir Memon Goth. Now there's only one Miyazaki mango tree in the entire country and it's producing these purple mango fruits that are supposed to be fiberless, super soft, and taste like they melt in your mouth. The gardener says the whole thing has nicknames like "Eggs of Sunshine" and "Dinosaur's Egg" because of how unique they look.
The crazy part? All of this purple mango production is mainly for export. These aren't for the local market really, they're preparing them to ship out internationally. Meanwhile Indian mangos are getting rejected in the US and here Pakistan is flexing with possibly the world's most exclusive mango. Wild that one tree in Malir is becoming this big deal.
