I looked at the GDP per capita statistics for 2025, and it's quite striking to see the huge gap between countries. South Sudan remains the poorest country in the world with only $251 per capita, followed by Yemen at $417 and Burundi at $490. It's truly on a different level.

Most of the poorest countries are concentrated in Sub-Saharan Africa. the DRC, Niger, Somalia, and Nigeria all rank in the top 10, with incomes between $740 and $810. West and Central Africa are particularly affected, with countries like Sierra Leone, Mali, and Chad all under $1,000.

It's interesting to note that some Asian countries like Myanmar, Nepal, and Bangladesh also appear on this list of the poorest, with GDP per capita between $1,100 and $2,700. Haiti in Latin America is also among the poorest countries in the world at $2,672. Economic development gaps remain truly massive from one region to another.
