Iran Eases Conditions for Resuming Talks with the U.S.

On May 2, Iran submitted a new proposal to Washington aimed at ending the conflict, showing signs of compromise intended to restart negotiations to resolve a deadlock that is heavily impacting its economy. Sources revealed that this new proposal brings Iran closer to the U.S.: it suggests discussing Tehran’s conditions for opening the Strait of Hormuz alongside the U.S. commitment to cease attacks and lift the blockade on Iranian ports. The sources also indicated that the proposal subsequently suggests discussing issues related to Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for the U.S. implementing sanctions relief. Iran has communicated to mediators that if Washington is open to this new proposal, it is prepared to travel to Pakistan for talks early next week. (The Wall Street Journal)
