According to a report from Israel on the 27th, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has once again postponed his attendance at a hearing related to a corruption case, and the hearing originally scheduled for that day has been canceled. It is understood that Netanyahu’s lawyer, about an hour and a half before the hearing was due to begin, asked the judge to cancel that day’s court hearing on the grounds of “security considerations.” In early 2020, Israeli prosecutors formally indicted Netanyahu on three counts: bribery, fraud, and breach of public trust. That same year, in May, the court held its first hearing in the case, and Netanyahu became the first sitting prime minister in Israel to face judicial proceedings. On December 10, 2024, Netanyahu testified in court for the first time in the corruption case. It is reported that if the bribery charge is upheld, Netanyahu could face a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison; the maximum penalties for the fraud and breach of public trust charges are 3 years in prison. Since the trial began, Netanyahu has repeatedly requested cancellations of hearings or delays in providing testimony, citing reasons such as the ongoing conflict, foreign trips, and health issues.
