Stellar is a decentralized open-source blockchain platform for conducting financial transactions, founded in 2014 by Jed McCaleb, one of the co-founders of Ripple. Stellar uses the consensus protocol (SCP), which allows for faster and more reliable transactions than most traditional blockchain solutions.
The main goal of Stellar is to create an international platform for digital payments that connects individuals, banks, and payment systems. An important aspect of Stellar's operation is supporting the creation and exchange of "anchor" issuers, which handle deposits, issue assets, and meet developers' requirements for creating products and services using these assets, aimed at improving end-user service quality.
Lumen is Stellar's native cryptocurrency, used within the system to pay transaction fees and prevent spam.
