Lately, I've been annoyed by spam messages again. Registering for overseas websites requires a real phone number, which is so frustrating just to think about. Later, I discovered virtual phone number verification platforms, which save a lot of trouble. Basically, you rent a temporary number to receive verification codes, so you don't need to get a new SIM card or worry about privacy leaks.

I've tried about seven or eight platforms, some of which don't receive messages at all, and others have ridiculous delays. In the end, I summarized five decent virtual phone number verification platforms. SMS-Activate is the most user-friendly, with verification codes arriving within 10 seconds and full country coverage. 5SIM is also good, with clear API documentation, and registering for Google and Twitter is no problem. If you're mainly using domestic apps, Super Cloud SMS and XiaoNiao Verification have decent experiences; US numbers get responses in about 10-30 seconds, and domestic numbers are even faster, usually within 5-20 seconds. Getsmscode is cheap, but sometimes delays occur with less popular platforms; it depends on your priorities.

The biggest pitfall of virtual phone number verification platforms is that numbers may have been used before, sometimes triggering risk controls. Changing the number segment usually solves this. Delays in receiving verification codes are also common, especially during peak times. My experience is to load several numbers, switch immediately when one becomes invalid, and not stubbornly stick to a single number. Also, this is just for temporary use; don’t expect to use it as a long-term main number, as privacy and security can't be guaranteed.

Honestly, if it's just for API testing, choosing any platform that supports API is enough. But if you want stable registration on a specific overseas site, it's best to prepare several backup numbers. Some platforms have a one-click number switch feature, which is very practical and can save a lot of trouble. Overall, virtual phone number verification platforms are indeed convenient, but you should choose reputable ones and avoid buying cheap, unreliable services.
