Have you ever heard of Erik Finman? He’s one of those figures in the crypto world who has a truly unique story—one that almost seems like it came straight out of a movie.

It all started when Erik was just 12 years old. While walking with his brother in Germany, he saw a guy wearing a T-shirt with the Bitcoin logo. Curious, he went over, and the man explained to him what cryptocurrencies were. From that point on, Erik Finman became obsessed with understanding how this new Bitcoin world worked.

Honestly, that boy hated school. An instructor even told him to give up and find a job at McDonald’s. Instead of getting discouraged, Erik decided he would try to become a millionaire just to prove the opposite. Surprisingly, his parents told him: okay, you can drop out of school, but on one condition—if you become a millionaire before you turn 18, you won’t have to go to college.

Erik Finman’s grandmother gave him $1,000. It was 2011, and Bitcoin cost about $10 per coin. He bought about 100 bitcoins and started trading every day for three years. In 2013, when the price reached $1,200 per bitcoin, he sold and left school permanently, once and for all.

But what’s really interesting is what he did afterward. In 2014, he founded Botangle, an online education platform where students like him could find teachers through video calls. When he was 15, he tried to pitch the project to a senior Uber executive. That person told him he would never win the bet with his parents. Erik didn’t get discouraged.

A year later, he sold Botangle for $100,000 or 300 bitcoins. He chose bitcoins, even though at the time they were only about $200 each. It seemed like a risky move, but Erik Finman knew what he was doing. He kept investing and even collaborated with NASA on space projects.

Before he turned 18, he made it. Bitcoin had passed $2,700, and he had won the bet. At the time, he owned around 450 bitcoins, which were worth about $4.5 million in 2019. According to some sources, he entered the top 5 of cryptocurrency millionaires in the world.

What’s striking is his mindset. Erik Finman firmly believes that cryptocurrencies are the money of the future and that opportunities will never run out—what matters is knowing how to recognize them. In an interview, he said: “If you don’t become a millionaire in the next 10 years, it’s your fault.” Strong words, but they come from someone who has truly shown he knows how to operate in this space.

Now he’s focused on a new project: the Freedom Phone, a smartphone that promotes free speech and privacy. Whether it becomes the next big success or not, Erik Finman’s story remains fascinating—it's the story of a kid who chose Bitcoin when few people took it seriously and built a fortune as a teenager.
