You know, I've been following the evolution of crypto gaming for a long time and want to share my observations on how NFT games have transformed from an experimental direction into a full-fledged market segment.
It all started with CryptoKitties in 2017. I remember how the Ethereum network was clogged with transactions because of this virtual cat game. People bred, crossed, and sold cats, with some going for astronomical sums. That was the moment everyone realized: NFT games have real potential.
Then there was a decline in interest, but in 2020, Axie Infinity reignited the hype. The Vietnamese project showed that you can really earn money with NFT games, attracting both gamers and serious investors. Since then, the wave hasn't subsided.
Currently, the ecosystem is full of interesting projects. I'll pick a few that really stand out.
Guild of Guardians — this is an RPG on the Immutable X platform. The idea is simple: assemble a team of Guardians, fight other players, complete missions, and earn NFT items that are fully yours. You can sell, trade, gift them — full control.
Mines of Dalarnia — an action game with mining and exploration. You search for rare relics, improve your character's skills, and go through different levels with various landscapes. The mechanics are quite deep.
Phantom Galaxies — this is a more ambitious project. Space-themed, third-person, open world, combat mechs. The crafting system allows creating and upgrading items. Looks like a serious attempt to make a full AAA game with NFT integration.
Next are sports-oriented projects. Rumble Kong League — basketball in NFT format. Participate in matches, rewards depend on difficulty. The project has 10,000 unique NFT avatars.
RaceFi — a racing game with AI and machine learning on Solana. Interesting because it offers several modes: PVE, PVP, and tournaments for up to 8 players. In PVP mode, AI controls the car, and you just watch the results. An unusual approach.
Aurory — a Japanese RPG (JRPG) with its own universe. Explore two regions, catch magical creatures called Nefti, and use them in battles. The game's currency is Aury. A standard play-to-earn mechanism, but with well-developed world-building.
Syn City — a free adventure game about managing a criminal organization. You can create team members for free, but mining will require gas. PVE and PVP battles, expanding the empire. Quite an unusual theme for NFT games.
Champions Ascension — a fantasy fighting RPG with Eternals — elite fighters. 10,000 unique NFTs with different appearance combinations. For fans of combat genres.
What do I see in these projects? Development is heading toward more complex gameplay and better NFT integration, not just speculative assets. NFT games are becoming more serious from a game design perspective.
But honestly: the market is getting more complicated, and technical risks are increasing. If you're considering this as an investment or income source, study projects carefully, understand the mechanics, and assess the risks. Don't jump into the first project you see.
Overall, the industry is developing interestingly. The question is which of these projects will survive and become truly popular. Time will tell.
