Trump Shooting Incident Dinner Open to Public During Event, Reporter Claims 'No One Actually Saw the Invitation'

On April 27, Reuters reported that Washington journalist Andy Sullivan stated that the gala for the black-tie dinner shooting incident took place in a hotel’s underground banquet hall. During the event, guests were still able to use hotel facilities normally, such as checking in and hailing cabs, leading the suspect to describe it as a ‘crazy security lapse.’ White House reporter Jacob Bogage noted, ‘The hotel entrance and back door had some added facilities for the safe passage of officials. Security checks were sometimes lax and sometimes strict. At the time, my invitation was in an envelope, and I just showed the back of the envelope to one person, and he let me through. On another occasion, I took the invitation out and waved it around — it could have been anything; in fact, no one really looked at the invitation and just let me in.’
