Been looking at SF housing lately and honestly wondering if san francisco affordable really exists or if that's just wishful thinking. Found some neighborhoods that don't completely destroy your bank account though. So I looked into a few places people actually recommend if you're trying to escape the $1.3M+ median price tag. Excelsior caught my attention first - it's got this really cool diverse vibe with amazing food from all over. Hawaiian BBQ, Filipino spots, Mexican places everywhere. Prices hover around $1.15M which is still a lot but beats the city average. Plus BART access is solid from there. Then there's Bayview which is even cheaper at around $930K. It's closer to downtown and has actual green space like Hilltop Park. Good for families apparently. Bernal Heights is another one people mention - $1.27M median, so you save a bit compared to other neighborhoods. Gets that small-town feeling which is kind of rare in a major city like this. Mix of old Victorian homes and newer condos. Visitacion Valley is wild because it's supposedly one of SF's best-kept secrets. Homes around $929K and the area has legit history and architecture even though it's been underfunded. Last one is Outer Sunset near Golden Gate Park and Ocean Beach - about $1.3M but supposedly one of the safest parts of the city with really good schools. So is san francisco affordable? Not really, but these neighborhoods are your best shot if you're determined to move there without taking out a second mortgage. Anyone else been looking at these areas?
