Wu says he has learned that the U.S. Department of Justice announced that two American cybersecurity professionals, Ryan Goldberg and Kevin Martin, were sentenced to four years in prison each for participating in attacks using ALPHV BlackCat ransomware in 2023; the two operated under a "ransomware-as-a-service" model and paid about 20% of the proceeds to the operators, including one ransom of approximately $1.2 million in Bitcoin that was laundered. The organization had targeted over 1,000 targets worldwide; co-defendant Angelo Martino has pleaded guilty and will be sentenced on July 9.
