Just checked out some cost of living data and honestly, it's wild how many places are actually cheaper than the US right now. Average here is around $2,433 monthly, which is brutal for a lot of people.
So I started looking at where you could actually stretch your money further. Europe's got some interesting options - Portugal and Greece are sitting under $1,150 a month, Spain around $1,383. Even some of the wealthier-sounding countries surprise you. Like, Netherlands is only $1,945, and Denmark's $1,923. If you're doing a cost of living comparison by country, those Nordic places are way cheaper than you'd think.
The Caribbean and Pacific islands are scattered throughout too. Costa Rica's under $1,200, Panama similar range. Some smaller island nations like Palau and Marshall Islands are even lower. Middle East has some pockets - Saudi Arabia around $1,244, though obviously depends on lifestyle.
What's interesting is the range. You've got places like Liechtenstein at $2,315 (barely cheaper than the US), but then drop down to Greece, Czech Republic, or Uruguay under $1,200. That's a massive difference if you're actually planning to relocate.
For anyone feeling squeezed financially in America, there's genuinely a bunch of viable options out there. Whether you want European culture, island life, or somewhere completely different - the cost of living comparison by country shows there's real alternatives worth exploring. Obviously you'd need to factor in visas, healthcare, and all that, but the numbers alone are pretty eye-opening.
