been looking into moving somewhere warm without breaking the bank and stumbled on some solid options in florida. so apparently the most affordable cities in florida right now are way more accessible than i thought, especially if you dont mind being near the beach instead of directly on it.
from what i gathered, palm bay is sitting at like 325k median home price (data from late 2023 so probably higher now), and honestly that feels doable if youre coming from up north. port st lucie is another one thats around 409k and people say it still has that small town vibe despite growing. fort myers caught my attention too at 375k - tons of rivers and canals there so youre basically getting waterfront access without the insane price tag.
the trick seems to be going slightly inland instead of right on the beach. like 15-30 min drive makes a huge difference in what you can afford. also mobile homes are apparently way cheaper if youre open to that. and yeah florida insurance is brutal but thats a separate headache.
cocoa beach and bradenton are on the pricier side comparatively but still cheaper than other coastal states. cocoa beach is like 497k but its more of a party town vibe which isnt for everyone anyway.
anyway if youre seriously considering the most affordable cities in florida as a snowbird move or actual relocation, seems like theres legit options that wont drain your savings. anyone here made the move? curious what the real costs look like now in 2026
