just saw this breakdown of tariffs hitting the auto industry and honestly it's wild how complicated it all is. so trump's executive order back in april 2025 was supposed to help domestic producers but the 25% tariffs on parts still kicked in, which means basically every car brand is gonna feel it. even american cars aren't actually 100% american when you dig into where parts come from.
anyway, someone put together this list of the most american-made vehicles on the market and the prices are kinda all over the place. tesla model y is the cheapest at around 47k to start, which honestly isn't bad for an ev. then you've got the honda odyssey at 43k, jeep gladiator at 40k if you want something with actual truck vibes. on the other end, tesla model s is sitting at 82k which is pretty steep.
what surprised me is that volkswagen id.4 is apparently one of the most american-made cars you can buy right now - it's like 41k and it's all-electric. the honda ridgeline and passport are solid mid-range options too if you want something that's actually built here. lexus tx350 rounds out the top at 56k.
the thing is, even with all these choices, none of these american cars are truly 100% american made because manufacturers source parts globally. so tariffs are gonna make everything more expensive regardless. kinda makes you wonder if waiting is worth it or if prices just keep climbing anyway
