Just realized CD rates have been pretty wild lately and honestly I spent way too long hunting for decent options. So if you're looking for 6 month cd rates near me or anything close to 6%, here's what I found out.
Turns out banks basically aren't offering 6% anymore, but some credit unions still have them. The catch is you actually have to be a member first. Like, you can't just walk in and open an account.
I looked into a bunch of them. Financial Partners in California was offering some crazy rates on their shorter CDs but you had to work for a partner company or live in specific counties. Then there's Nuvision which is more flexible - you can join if you're related to a current member or work for Boeing basically. They had competitive rates on 9-month terms but capped it at $5k.
There were also options in Texas and New York but again, super location dependent. City Credit Union had solid 12-month rates if you lived in the right counties around Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Honestly if you can't qualify for any of these, 5% CDs are still pretty good right now compared to what we used to get. High-yield savings accounts are another route if you want flexibility without locking money away. Just depends what works for your situation I guess.
