Just realized how many random things you can actually buy with an HSA card that most people have no clue about. Like, I always thought it was just for basic medical stuff, but apparently there's a whole list of things.

Obviously sunscreen makes sense if it's SPF 15 or higher, but then there's the stuff that's kinda wild—contact lens solution, glasses, even pill organizers. Oh and menstrual products too, which honestly should've been obvious but apparently needed to be spelled out.

Here's where it gets interesting though. You can use your HSA funds for OTC meds like Tylenol and Benadryl (that became a thing in 2020 with the CARES Act). Hot and cold packs for sore muscles, kinesiology tape if you're into that, prenatal vitamins if you're planning ahead, condoms, birth control... basically a lot of preventative and wellness stuff that insurance usually doesn't touch.

Even smoking cessation products like nicotine patches and gum are covered. So if you've got an HSA and didn't know what you can buy with an HSA card beyond the obvious medical expenses, you might actually have more flexibility than you thought. Definitely worth looking into if you've got money sitting there.

Anyone else surprised by some of these? Feel like most people just let their HSA balance grow without realizing what they're actually allowed to spend it on.
