France Cracks Down on Cryptocurrency 'Hammer Attacks', Prosecuting 88 Including Minors

On April 27, French authorities launched a large-scale crackdown on a series of violent robberies targeting cryptocurrency holders, commonly referred to as ‘hammer attacks’, officially prosecuting 88 individuals, including some minors. These crimes typically involve criminals using violent threats to force victims to hand over their crypto assets. It has been reported that since 2023, France has recorded 135 incidents of such violence related to cryptocurrencies. This law enforcement action reflects a nationwide surge in offline crimes against cryptocurrency holders as the value of cryptocurrencies rises.
