Been scrolling through some 2025 SUV reviews and honestly, there's solid options out there if you want something practical without dropping crazy money. The sweet spot seems to be anything under $40k that still gives you the space and safety features families actually need.

Kia Telluride keeps showing up everywhere for good reason - starts around $37,805 and seats up to eight people. Gets about 20-22 combined MPG. It's won that Kelley Blue Book award six years running, which tells you something. Highway driving assist with adaptive cruise and lane centering is pretty standard on it now too.

If fuel efficiency is your thing, Honda CR-V Hybrid is interesting at $36,045 with 40 combined MPG. That's a meaningful difference at the pump over time. Base model has solid cargo space and comes packed with tech like adaptive cruise and lane assistance.

But if hybrid premium doesn't appeal to you, regular CR-V is legit too - starts at $31,495 and still pulls 28-30 combined. Car and Driver ranked it their top compact SUV, and it scored second for safety. The front seats are supposedly designed to cut down driver fatigue on longer drives, which is one of those details people don't always think about.

Hyundai Palisade landed on most reviewers' lists at $38,675. Spacious across all three rows, lots of tech options, comfortable ride. Handling isn't quite as sharp as some competitors, but for families looking for practical space, it checks boxes.

Mazda's throwing two options into the under $40k range. CX-90 is the three-row at $39,300 with 25 MPG - reviewers call it luxurious for the price, though third row and cargo space could be roomier. CX-50 is the more nimble option starting $31,720, gets 25-28 MPG, and even the base comes with all-wheel drive. Interior quality is surprisingly nice, but some trims push past $40k quick.

Obviously, finding a solid SUV under $40k means weighing what matters most - whether it's seating capacity, fuel efficiency, tech features, or just good handling. These options actually deliver on multiple fronts without the premium pricing.
