Just looked into car insurance in Ohio and honestly the rates here are pretty reasonable compared to what I'm seeing in other states. Been shopping around and it seems like Geico and Grange keep popping up as the cheapest options across different driver profiles - whether you've got a clean record or a ticket on your history.
The thing that surprised me is how much a teen driver adds to your bill. We're talking an extra grand a year easy, but even that's still below the national average for Ohio. Also found out about 12% of drivers here don't have insurance at all, which is kind of wild. That's why everyone keeps telling me to get uninsured motorist coverage.
Ohio's minimum coverage is 25/50/25 (bodily injury per person, total per accident, property damage). I get why people go minimum to save money, but honestly if you cause a big accident that hits those limits, you could get sued for everything else. Feels like the smart move is carrying more than the minimum.
Anyway, the cheapest ohio car insurance really depends on your situation - good driving record, accidents, poor credit, whatever. But the point is there's definitely competition in Ohio's market so shopping around actually matters. State Farm and Progressive have huge market share but they're not always the best deal. Worth checking what Erie and Grange quote too if you're looking for the best rates.
