I used to really not care about transaction records. I figured everything was already on-chain, so I’d deal with it at the end of the year. Then, once it was time to calculate taxes/file a report—no matter where you are, that “please explain the source of this transaction” feeling is basically the same—I’d get a chill: cross-chain transfers back and forth, CEX deposits and withdrawals, gas fees, bridge wrapped/encapsulated transactions… Honestly, if you don’t keep things in advance, you can’t put it all back together afterward.
Now I’m more strict: every time I cross-chain or make a large position swap, I’ll conveniently jot down the tx hash, take screenshots, and write a couple of notes about what I was doing at the time. I’ll also export the exchange’s deposit/withdrawal records and save them to a hard drive. Especially recently, with all the testnet incentives and points expectations, people are betting every day on whether the mainnet will issue tokens. I’ll go grab a couple too, but I’m even more worried that later, a bunch of fragmented airdrops/rebates will show up with unclear sources—being unable to explain where they came from is more annoying than not getting them at all… For now, that’s it: I’d rather spend an extra 5 minutes now than pull an all-nighter at the end of the year flipping through block explorers.
