According to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency on the 22nd, Maliki, a member of Iran’s Islamic Parliament National Security Committee, said that the United States has breached relevant commitments, and its maritime operations and threat actions have hindered the progress of the next phase of US-Iran negotiations. Maliki said that a maritime blockade, attacks on Iranian vessels, and threats from the U.S. were some of the reasons why Iran’s negotiating team was unable to travel to Islamabad, Pakistan, to attend the second round of talks. He noted that although Iran’s Foreign Minister Araghchi previously said that Iran would open the Strait of Hormuz and allow commercial ships to pass within the initially agreed framework, the U.S. side’s continued maritime blockade and other hostile actions have obstructed Iran’s negotiating team from going to Islamabad.
