U.S. FBI collaborates with multiple countries to dismantle several "Pig Butchering" cryptocurrency scam networks, arresting 276 people
BlockBeats News, April 30 — The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), in cooperation with law enforcement agencies from Dubai, China, and Thailand, launched a large-scale international joint operation, successfully dismantling at least 9 overseas cryptocurrency scam centers, arresting 276 suspects, with the involved amount reaching several million dollars.
In this operation, the U.S. San Diego Federal Court filed federal charges of telecommunications fraud and money laundering against 6 suspects, including nationals from Myanmar and Indonesia. The scam organizations operated under the names "Sanduo Group" and "Giant Company." Dubai police arrested 275 suspects, and the Royal Thai Police separately arrested 1 fugitive.
The aforementioned scam networks used "pig-butchering" tactics, forging friendships or romantic relationships to gain victims' trust, inducing them to transfer funds to fake cryptocurrency investment platforms, then laundering and transferring the money to criminal accounts.
This operation aligns with the executive order signed by Trump on March 6, 2026, aimed at cracking down on overseas criminal networks exploiting American citizens. The FBI's "Operation Level Up" has notified approximately 9,000 victims, recovering about $562 million for American citizens. The FBI urges victims to report via the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).
