Been scrolling through what people are actually doing after they retire and honestly there's way more options than I thought. Like, everyone assumes you just stop working but apparently a ton of folks are finding gigs that actually work with their lifestyle instead of against it.

The bookkeeping thing makes sense if you've got that background - you can literally run it from home and outsourcing firms are always hiring. Medical coding is blowing up too, they're saying demand goes up like 7% over the next few years, so there's real work there for people who get certified.

What surprised me most is how many people are doing the gig economy stuff. Pet sitting, house sitting, rideshare - the flexibility is actually insane. One survey showed over half of rideshare drivers were 51+ which I didn't expect. And if you're into making stuff, Etsy alone has 92 million sellers moving billions in sales, so that's a real market.

The part-time retail thing is interesting too because you basically get to pick your hours and maybe score an employee discount at somewhere you actually like. Plus consulting is apparently hot right now so if you've got expertise you can charge more.

Taxes and tutoring are solid if you want steadier work - tutoring pays decent hourly and you control your own schedule. Virtual assistant gigs are everywhere too if you're comfortable working online.

Honestly the smartest move might be just asking your old employer if they'd take you back part-time. They already know you're reliable, so that's one less thing to prove. Thinking a lot of people sleep on that option.
