AI Agent Adoption Rises, Stablecoin Payment Reaches 2 Million Transactions

Latest data from Korea Economic Daily ( April 28 ) reveals a new trend where AI Agents now process over 2.3 million payments using stablecoins each month. The accumulated transaction volume from this automated activity has reached $49.5 million, indicating a major shift in how artificial intelligence technology interacts with the global financial system.
AI Agents utilize stablecoins like USDC to perform real-time micropayments when accessing external data, such as weather information or search APIs. This system proves to be far more efficient compared to traditional credit cards, which are often not economical for small transactions below $1 due to high administrative fees. Through automated protocols like Coinbase's x402, AI Agents can execute payments independently via crypto wallets without manual instructions from users.
Seeing this adoption growth, global payment giants like Visa and Mastercard are accelerating strategies to bring AI-based payments into their card networks. However, the blockchain's advantages in instant transaction settlement and low costs make it the primary infrastructure for an agent-based economy. This phenomenon proves that digital assets have now become the backbone of operational functions for the AI ecosystem worldwide, not just speculative instruments.
