For the Price of a Car, You Could Buy 5 New Chinese EVs
China is rewriting the rules on the price of a car, offering potential buyers more Features for less money. The Beijing Auto Show opened on April 24 and will run through May 3, 2026, and global car makers and automobile enthusiasts are making a beeline to catch a glimpse of the future of the auto industry. What comes as a shocker in the expo is the new price of the EV cars, which has got the industry talking.
The Beijing Auto Show laid bare the stark contrast between car pricing from China and the US. The average price for a new car in the US starts from $51,456, according to Kelley Blue Book. On the contrary, the five best-selling EVs from China start from $10,000 to $12,000, according to a report compiled by Reuters. There are even cheaper options that start from $8,000 in China. You can even go down further to $6,560 with the Wuling Hongguang MiniEV cars.

The star of the Beijing Auto Show is Geely’s EX2 EV, which is a top-selling model in China. The small yet compact EV is known for its spatial design that gives users a feeling that the car is bigger in size.** “When you get in, you don’t feel like you are in a small car,” **auto analyst Felipe Munoz said. “It feels better in terms of quality and bigger in terms of size,” he wrote.
Ethan Robertson shepherded, an American YouTuber, attended the Beijing Auto Show, detailing how foreigners are missing out on Chinese EV cars. The price and the experience are much different than the EV cars sold in the US. If Chinese cars are allowed to enter the US markets, American-made EVs could face stiff competition.
