Crypto World News reports that French authorities have filed charges against 88 individuals in connection with recent violent crypto kidnapping cases known as "Wrench Attacks." This type of attack involves criminals using violence or threats to force crypto holders to reveal private keys or passwords. Since 2023, over 135 such incidents have occurred in France, according to the National Office for the Fight Against Organized Crime (PNACO), which states that these kidnapping cases are often planned by foreign organizers and coordinated with recruiters in France. The victims are typically male investors or entrepreneurs aged 20 to 35. Blockchain security firm Certik states that attacks targeting crypto holders have become a "structural threat" to digital asset ownership. Certik recorded 71 wrench attack incidents in 2025, resulting in over $40.9 million in losses, a 44% increase year-over-year.
