Recently, APE (Bored Ape) NFTs have been quite popular, everyone is talking about them, but I really can't get into it. Why? Because once you peel back the layer of financial speculation, you'll find that 90% of the NFTs on the market have no real function for the average person. Buying a monkey picture to change your avatar, what else can it do besides showing off in certain circles? This model is too limited and destined to be a niche self-entertainment.
Where is the true breakout point for NFTs? I think it must be tied to "strong demand," and the most direct entry point is phenomenon-level games.
Imagine if Riot Games released an NFT of a hero from "League of Legends," or launched a collectible-grade NFT skin for "Honor of Kings," do you think it would sell out instantly? Absolutely. Because players have genuine emotional attachment and social needs related to the game. Imagine holding a globally limited Yasuo NFT skin in the Rift—such visual impact and bragging rights are something no sky-high blue-chip images can provide now.
These game NFTs inherently carry strong entertainment value and utility. If in the future, a truly fun, top-quality graphics, and well-balanced mechanism "phenomenon-level blockchain game" is born, NFTs could really have great potential.
Once such a game appears, it can bring disruptive benefits to the entire crypto community. First, it can attract a massive number of traditional gamers into Web3, bringing real incremental capital; second, NFTs will transform from "financial derivatives that pass the parcel" into genuine "digital assets"; finally, it can break the vicious cycle of current blockchain games "playing to make money, dying when no one plays," and bring gaming back to its core of fun.
Therefore, regarding the current hot NFT trend, my attitude is very clear: not envious, not blindly following. A bubble without practical application scenarios will eventually burst. Better to wait and see if big established companies that truly understand gaming will enter the space, or if a blockchain game giant that can retain non-crypto players will emerge. Until then, protect your principal and let the bullets fly a little longer. When that day comes, the starry ocean of NFTs will truly begin. $APE
