EU Imposes Crypto Sanctions on Russian Exchanges, Ruble Stablecoins and CBDC

The European Commission, representing 27 EU member states, announced sanctions that ban exchanges with Russian crypto asset service providers and decentralized crypto trading platforms. The package also prohibits stablecoins pegged to the Russian ruble and the CBDC under development by the Central Bank of Russia. The commission said the measures respond to Russia’s growing use of cryptocurrencies for international transactions under existing sanctions.
