Decentralized storage is moving from concept to reality. Recently, a well-known crypto media announced that all news articles, videos, and photos have been migrated to the decentralized storage network Walrus, no longer relying on traditional centralized servers. This is not a test project but an official permanent storage solution — a key detail that indicates content creators are beginning to trust the maturity of on-chain infrastructure.

Even more interesting is the diversification of application scenarios. The largest NFT trading platform in the Sui ecosystem, TradePort, now uses Walrus to handle dynamic NFT metadata. Traditional NFT metadata is static URI and cannot be changed. But if the metadata is stored on Walrus, it can be updated in real-time — game items can upgrade attributes, collectibles can add new information, and cross-chain assets can be dynamically synchronized. This opens up many possibilities for the entire NFT ecosystem.

Technical applications are also expanding. Some Rollup projects are starting to use Walrus as a data availability layer, handling temporary transaction storage and cross-chain synchronization. Rather than just archiving, it’s turning storage into a key component of cross-chain infrastructure.

People are also experimenting in the AI field. One team is exploring storing training data, model weights, and training proofs on Walrus — because verifiable on-chain data can solve issues of AI training integrity and trustworthiness. In an environment where disputes over AI model ownership are frequent, this is actually a promising solution.

From media archiving to NFT metadata, to Rollup infrastructure and AI training data, Walrus has quickly transformed from a storage tool into a core part of on-chain infrastructure. These are not marketing stories but real projects exploring in production environments.
