Perpetual contracts undergo adjustments, and the funding rate settlement frequency will switch flexibly

【Crypto World】A leading exchange recently announced an optimization and adjustment to its contract trading mechanism.

Starting from 20:00 on January 2, 2026 (Beijing Time), the funding rate for U-based perpetual contracts will implement a new dynamic adjustment rule. Specifically, when the funding rate remains below an absolute value of 0.025% for 16 consecutive settlement periods within an hour, the system will automatically trigger an adjustment on the 17th period—changing the funding rate settlement frequency from hourly back to every four hours.

What is the purpose of this adjustment? In simple terms, when the market is relatively calm and rate fluctuations are small, extending the settlement cycle can reduce the impact of frequent rate changes on traders. This means that under certain market conditions, contract traders will enjoy a more stable rate environment.

For traders who frequently trade perpetual contracts, this is a detail worth paying attention to. The change in funding rate settlement frequency will directly affect the calculation of position costs, especially for users with long-term holdings who need to adjust their strategies accordingly.

Here we go again, another rule change? This time it's a bit interesting. Settling every four hours, when the fee rate stabilizes, the market just dies. Wait, isn't this a blessing for lazy people? No need to watch the fee rate dance. It's great when the market is cold, but what about when it's hot? Then it'll have to be changed back.

Looking at this update, to put it simply, when the market is stable, the fee rate fluctuations are smaller, and the exchange reduces the frequency for us, so we don't get exploited for arbitrage every day.

Wait, changing the fee rate from hourly to four-hourly—are they helping us or screwing us over?

You're doing this kind of fine-tuning again. The stability of the fee rate definitely needs to be looked into.

Well, the fee rate adjustment is here again, and this time it's a dynamic switch. That's interesting. Wait, it only triggers after 16 cycles? How long do we have to wait... Basically, when the market isn't volatile, they give us a more stable fee rate, but I feel like we still need to keep an eye on it. Starting from 2026 again, these exchanges love to give early warnings, afraid people won't know? A must-read for perpetual contract traders, I’ve noted it down, thanks for the reminder. This rule is a bit complicated, switching only if 16 hours are below 0.025%? The designer really knows how to calculate. Fee rates are basically bloodsucking from traders; changing the frequency doesn't change the essence. I don't quite understand why it has to be so complicated. Isn't a fixed rate simpler? Now I need to study how this affects my positions. The contract market is deep; such fine-tuning still requires caution.
