TL;DR: All U.S. stock exchanges (NYSE, Nasdaq, S&P 500, etc.) are closed on June 19 to observe Juneteenth. Trading resumes Friday at 9:30 a.m. ET. Bond markets are also closed.
The Quick History
Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865—the day Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas with the news that slavery had ended. While the Emancipation Proclamation was signed on January 1, 1863, Texas was the last state to actually enforce it. Fast forward to 2021: President Biden signed Juneteenth into federal law, making it an official U.S. holiday.
