UTC in Crypto: The Time Difference That Can Cost You Money
Have you seen a launch that says “8:00 AM UTC” and arrived at 8:00 AM in your country… only to find out that you arrived 5 hours late. Welcome to the club of those who don't understand UTC.
What is UTC and why is it used in crypto?
UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is basically the world's reference clock. It does not change for seasons or daylight saving time. In crypto, absolutely everything uses UTC: launches, presales, airdrops, futures liquidations. There are no exceptions.
Your time difference is probably not what you think
Here are the most common ones in Latin America:
An example: a token that comes out at 8:00 AM UTC means it will be 3:00 AM in Colombia, 5:00 AM in Argentina. If you don't know it, you will miss the whole event.
