$350 million Bitcoin just vanished? Florida man's lawsuit dismissed by court
[Bit推] A guy from Florida wanted to recover $354 million worth of Bitcoin, but the federal appeals court ruled against him.
This matter dates back to 2019. A guy named Michael Prehm was arrested for forging documents and identity theft; the police confiscated a bunch of his equipment, including an orange hard drive. The problem arose—he kept telling the investigators, probation officers, and the judge that he basically had no cryptocurrency. The federal agents believed him, conducted a search and found nothing, and then destroyed the equipment.
As a result, this guy was sentenced to over five years in 2020, and suddenly turned around saying that the destroyed hard drive contained nearly 3443 BTC. The court was completely unconvinced this time: you initially said there was no coin, and now you come out shouting injustice? And you took so long to file a lawsuit? Your statements don’t match up, and the statute of limitations has also expired.
Just like that, 350 million dollars worth of Bitcoin is completely gone.
