The U.S. government shutdown is now seeing a turning point, as the leadership of both parties first sends out signals for "reopening."
On November 4, after a nearly record-breaking federal government shutdown, signs of a possible end to the shutdown appeared in the U.S. Congress on Monday. Senate Republican and Democratic leaders discussed possible “exit strategies” to resolve the current deadlock. The 34-day standoff between Congress and Trump has led to a series of federal program shutdowns, including assistance to low-income Americans, military pay distribution, and airport operations. The new fiscal year began on October 1, but legislation to fund such activities has failed to pass. Thousands of federal employees are now on unpaid leave, and this fight has also stalled about $1.7 trillion in discretionary funds, which account for roughly one-third of total annual U.S. spending. Since October 1, Senate Republican and Democratic factions have held several sporadic private meetings in search of a solution to the deadlock plaguing Washington, but so far, no final agreement has been reached.
