Trump to meet with President Lee Jae-myung in Gyeongju on the 29th... 2-day visit to Korea( comprehensive)

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, will visit South Korea on the 29th and hold talks with President Lee Jae-myung, according to White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt on the 23rd (local time).

Levitt said in an official briefing, “President Trump will travel to Busan on Wednesday morning (29th), have bilateral talks with the President of the Republic of Korea, deliver a keynote speech at the APEC CEO luncheon, and attend a working dinner with leaders that evening.”

This will be the second meeting between President Lee and President Trump since their first summit in Washington last August.

According to a government source, contrary to Levitt's announcement, the Korea-U.S. summit itself will be held in Gyeongju, the venue for the APEC summit, not in Busan.

President Trump is scheduled to complete the Korea-U.S. summit and APEC schedule on the 29th, meet with President Xi the next day, and depart for Washington DC that night.

There is interest in whether the trade agreement between the two countries, which is in the final stages of negotiation, will be finalized on the occasion of the Korea-U.S. summit. The final issues remaining in the composition of the $350 billion (about 500 trillion won) investment package for the U.S. are the ratio of cash investment and the period of fund supply.

In addition, attention is focused on whether a solution can be found in the negotiations between President Trump and President Xi regarding the U.S.-China trade conflict.

According to the briefing, President Trump will depart Washington DC on the night of the 24th and visit Malaysia first.

He will arrive in Malaysia on the morning of the 26th local time, and hold bilateral talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in the afternoon. In the evening of the same day, he is scheduled to attend a working dinner with ASEAN leaders.

President Trump will move to Tokyo, Japan on the morning of the 27th and hold bilateral talks with new Japanese Prime Minister Sanaé Takaichi on the morning of the 28th. He will stay in Japan for two nights and three days before moving to Korea on the morning of the 29th.

As a result, President Trump is expected to not attend the main APEC summit meetings to be held in Gyeongju from the 31st for two days.
